UK. Milford Haven Port reopens to traffic, after fatal barge collapse

Oct 8, 2007 Port

The Port of Milford Haven has been reopened to all traffic following an incident yesterday (Saturday) when a jack up barge working alongside the South Hook LNG terminal partially collapsed, in which one person lost their life.

A spokesman for Milford Haven Port Authority said: “We have been working closely with the emergency services throughout, providing support including the deployment of a remote controlled under water camera, which helped locate the body of the missing man. We very much regret the loss of life since safety at the Port for all those who work there is of paramount importance to us.”

Apart from some minor restrictions in the immediate vicinity of the incident the Port is operating as normal. A Salvage Control Unit has been set-up which is assessing the best way to recover the barge.
