Shanghai container throughput rise slower

Shanghai Port reported a container throughput of 7.28 million TEUs in the first quarter of this year, a 12-percent year-on-year rise, the port management authority.


The growth rate was 3.5 percentage points lower than the year-earlier level and it was also lower than the national average, reported Xinhua.


Shanghai Port surpassed Singapore to become the largest container port in the world last year.


Besides traditional loading and unloading business, Shanghai Port will expand into logistics business, according to Bao Qifan, vice-president of Shanghai International Port Management Group.
