APM Terminals doubles capacity at Nigerian Port of Apapa

May 23, 2008 Port

Dutch-based port operator APM Terminals, part of Danish group A.P. Moller - Maersk, has doubled the capacity at its facilities in the Nigerian port of Apapa.

The capacity expansion comprised installation of four new gantry cranes and is in line with the operator's previous investments in the African port.

Apapa, which is Nigeria's largest and most important port terminal, was privatised in 2006. Since then, the number of container ships which have called at the port have gone up by 30 percent.

APM Terminals also operates the West African Container Terminal (WACT), at the port of Onne, Nigeria.
