Qingdao box throughput up 17.6% in Q1 2011

Apr 7, 2011 Port

Qingdao Port, China's second-largest port in terms of foreign trade, handled 96.02 million metric tonnes of cargo in the first quarter of this year, 13.2 percent more than in the same period of last year, said Chang Dechuan, chairman and president of Qingdao Port (Group) Co.

In the first three months, the port saw its container throughput increase 17.6 percent year on year to 3.2 million TEUs, reported China Knowledge Press.

Chang said that the increases in cargo and container throughput were due to recovering international trade.

In 2010, the port's cargo throughput increased 11 percent year-on-year to more than 350 million metric tonnes, and its container throughput swelled 16.9 percent year-on-year to 12 million TEUs.
