Port of Archangelsk posts a 20.8% gain in Q1, to 707.9ths tons

Trade flows passing through the port of Archangelsk in the first quarter of 2011 increased by 20.8% compared with the same period of 2010, to 707,900 tons, PortNews reports citing the Archangelsk Port Authority.


In Jan-Mar, exports of petroleum products surged by nearly 2 times from 2010’s figures, to 190,500 tons, while coal volume shrank by 6% to 66,900 tons, timber cargo fell 16 .4%, to 89,400 tons. The volume of short sea traffic decreased by 14.3% to 148,100 tons. Handling of inbound general cargoes increased by 34.8% to 167,100 tons.


The year-round navigable Port of Arkhangelsk seaport is located in the delta of the Northern Dvina River flowing into the White Sea. Cargoes transported via the Northern Sea Route are passing through the port’s terminals. The stevedore companies operating at the port handle a broad range cargo: general, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers and heavy-lift cargo, suction and grab cargoes. Arkhangelsk is able to transship up to 4,5 million tons of cargo a year. Throughput of the port of Arkhangelsk in 2010 rose year-over-year by 30.1% to 4,5 million tons.
