Guangxi's Guigang Port aims to double throughput in five years

GUIGANG, a port on the Xijiang River in southwestern China's Guangxi Autonomous Region, handled 151 million tonnes of cargo last year, making the largest river port in south China. The port is targeting on doubling its throughput by 2015, Xinhua reports.


The port plans to increase its cargo handling capacity by 34 million tonnes to 72 million tonnes, and container handling capacity to 400,000 TEU. It will also be able to accommodate ships totalling three million tonnes.


The port lifted 3.2 million tonnes of cargo in January, up 25.8 per cent year on year.
