SOUTHEASTERN China's port of Xiamen plans to achieve a cargo throughput tonnage of 150 million tonnes, up 10 per cent year on year, and a container throughput of 6.4 million TEU, also up 10 per cent, by the end of this year, Xinhua reports.
To meet its target, the port will attract large companies to take part in the development project of its Zhangzhou port area, offer subsidies and preferential measures for international transshipments and support feeder lines and internal trade lanes. Xiamen is trying to expand its feeder network to cover Wenzhou, a major manufacturing coastal city south of Hangzhou and Shanghai.
