THE CHONGQUING provincial status government is to spend at least CNY3 billion (US$456.5 million) on port facilities, terminals and navigation channels this year, and is aiming to achieve the target of pouring CNY3.5 billion into such facilities this year, Xinhua reports.
Chongqing port's cargo handling capacity will reach 140 million tonnes and container handling capacity 2.4 million tonnes by the end of this year. The port is to start several port area development projects this year, bringing an extra of 10 million tonnes to the port's capacity.
During the period from 2006 to 2010, CNY390 million was invested on upgrading the Chongqing section of Yangtze River. At the end of this period, navigation capacity of the upper reaches of the river was increased by eight times.
China will invest CNY43 billion on a truck stream in Yangtze River. Some CNY21.5 billion will be spent on river projects from 2011 to 2015.
