By the year of 2020 cargo turnover of ports of Latvia will have grown by 2 times — up to 123 mn tons. According to Delfi, such a forecast was made by the Ministry of communication of Latvia.
In 2020 the port of Ventspils will handle 58 mn tons of cargo. Compared to the results 2006 (29.1 mn tons) it will grow by 2 times.
Riga’s turnover will increase from 25.3 mn tons (in 2006) up to 46 mn tons, Liepaja – by 5 times, from 3.4 mn tons up to 19 mn tons in 2020.
The forecast is made on the base of ports’ development plans and prospective improvement of relationships with Russia.
It is expected that in 2012 turnover of Ventspils will be 48 mn tons, Riga — 29 mn tons, Liepaja — 11 mn tons.
