Cargo volumes handled by Commercial Seaport of Vladivostok JSC (CPV) in January-February 2011 shrank by 14.6% compared to January-February of 2010, to 1,013,925 tons or 80.1% of the stevedore’s plan for Q1, 2011, the company’s press service reported.
CPV said the trend was due to the change in trade flows passing through Vladivostok port. Throughout 2010 outbound commodities made up the bulk of freight traffic. Now the exports are being replaced by the volumes of imported goods and coastal traffics.
In the reporting period exports slumped by 42.5% to 461,100 tons while imports soared 103.5% to 324,900 tons, short sea shipping bought 226,900 tons of cargo (+1.3%).
Container traffic via Vladivostok port surged by 43.8% to 63,324 TEUs: 23,613 teus of exports, 22,013teus of imports and 17,698teus of short sea trade.
In February CPV handled 514,044 tons of cargo, including 223,200 tons of exports, 164,600 tons of imports and 126,400 tons of short sea shipping. Monthly container volume totaled 32,228 TEUs (exports – 11,960 TEUs, imports – 10,097 TEUs, coastal traffics – 10,171 TEUs).
Commercial Sea Port of Vladivostok OJSC, part of FESCO Transport Group, owns and operates the assets at the sea port of Vladivostok, one of the largest seaports in the Russia’s Far East. Port of Vladivostok encompasses 55 ha, over 14 km of waterfront with 17 berths, including terminals for handling grain, containers, imported cars and a passenger terminal. In 2010, CPV’s cargo throughput rose year-over-year by 11% to 6,9 million tons.
