The car handling volumes increased 56 per cent to 322,000 cars at Copenhagen Malmö Port, CMP, in 2010. The boom is explained by stronger car sales in Scandinavia and Russia.
“The markets in Sweden and Norway increased first, followed by sales in Denmark and Finland. But the real boost came when the car market in Russia picked up again. As a result, by the end of the year we were handling around 30,000 cars per month”, says Bart Steijaert, responsible for CMP’s port and terminal activities.
To cope with the increase, CMP has started re-employing staff.
