CHINA's southwestern trade value through Guangxi's port city of Fancheng, 50 miles east of the Vietnamese border on the Gulf of Tonkin, increased 20.5 per cent year on year to US$2.7 billion in 2010, Xinhua reports.
Most cargo came from Yunnan, Sichuan and Guizhou provinces. Yunnan cargo totalled $2.1 billion, up 25.6 per cent, and accounted for 76 per cent of transhipment value through Fangcheng. Sichuan cargo, valued at $330 million, took up 12.1 per cent and enjoyed a year-on-year increase of 8.8 per cent. Guizhou cargo, valued $280 million, was off 0.9 per cent while Chongqing cargo, worth $42.8 million, surged 66.7 per cent.
Fangcheng is one of the largest ports on the southwest China coast. As the country further implement the development plan for the western regions, the port's trade cargo volume has been increasing.
