Russian ports beef up its capacities by 5.3% to 660,7m tons

In 2010 the capacity of Russian port facilities was increased by 5.3% (30,2 million tons) compared to the same period in 2009 to 660,7 million tons, PortNews reports citing to the information of an extended meeting of the Council of the Federal Agency of Maritime and River Transport.. The figures are projected to be increased before 2016 up to 770 million tons with a 15-percent reserve capacity.


The agency has reported that cargo throughput of Russian seaports in 2010 increased by 6% year-over-year to 526.03 million tons. Last year, there were 178,700 ship calls at the country’s ports (arrivals / departures) versus 164,200 calls in 2008 and 160,800 in 2009.
