AMERICAN west coast ports - Seattle, Tacoma, Portland, Oakland and LA-Long Beach - posted a container volume increases of 13 per cent in January year on year to 1,201,331 TEU.
Increases were enjoyed by all with most posting double-digit increases, according to Pacific Maritime Association statistics, reported the Journal of Commerce. Container volume in southern California was up 14 per cent year on year with imports increasing at the same 14 per cent rate.
Oakland was up 10 per cent in January containers, with imports rising 15 and exports up seven per cent. Portland, Oregon, posted a 26 per cent gain with imports up 46 per cent and exports rising 10 per cent year on year, but January 2009 performed very poorly against which, 2010 percentage gains were more easily made.
Seattle and Tacoma were both up 13 per cent with imports increasing 11 per cent and exports by 15 per cent.
