JSW Jaigarh port, in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra, recently adroitly handled a cargo of coated steel pipes from the vessel m. v. Bulk Paraiso which had called at the facility laden with 13,900 tonnes of pipes on February 15, according to Exim News Service.
The port planned the discharge sequence, cargo evacuation methodology and stackyard well before the arrival of the vessel, and all infrastructure requirements were created in consultation with the receivers. The vessel was berthed directly on arrival and discharge commenced as per the plan and in accordance with the stiff requirements of the receivers.
This was the first time coated pipes were discharged at Jaigarh port, and with well-planned and coordinated operations, high productivity was achieved. The receivers as well as the pipe manufacturers were highly impressed with the port's performance.
JSW Jaigarh Port Ltd, a subsidiary of JSW Infrastructure Ltd, has set up a green-field multicargo deepwater port in Damankhol Bay, Jaigarh, in Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra. The endeavour is for the port to be the facility of choice for all its customers in Maharashtra and Northern Karna-taka. Located in the protected surroundings of Jaigarh Head, between the two Major Ports of Mumbai and Mormugao and occupying a strategic position on the West Coast, the port offers customised cargo handling solutions to customers at competitive rates.
The port has been developed and is being operated on a 50-year concession from the Maharashtra government on BOOST basis. It has two berths with mechanised facility for handling 20 million tonnes of bulk cargo. The present draught of 14 metres makes it the deepest private port on the Maharashtra coast.
In the next phase, JSW Jaigarh Port is initiating development of liquid handling, LNG, ro-ro and container terminals. The master plan envisages a port capacity of 50 million tonnes per annum. Plans are under way to increase the draught to 18 metres for accommodating Capesize vessels of 180,000 DWT. Rail and road connectivity is also being enhanced simultaneously to enable quick and cost-effective receipt and delivery of cargo.
