Greece-flagged tanker pirated in the North Arabian Sea

The Greece-flagged MV IRENE SL product tanker was attacked and hijacked by pirates on February 9, approximately 350nm South East of Muscat in the North Arabian Sea, EU NAVFOR press release said.


The 319,247DWT tanker,owned by Panama, was bound for Suez from Fujairah when it was attacked. There is no further information on the attack an condition of the crew of 25 (7 Greek, 1 Georgian and 17 Filipinos) is abailable.


The MV IRENE SL was registered with MSC(HOA) and was reporting to UKMTO. EUNAVFOR are continuing to monitor the situation.
