Terex Noell (China) has been awarded its largest overseas contract for two years with a US$20m order for the supply of five rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes for the new container terminal at Kattupalli Port, Chenai, India.
The order was placed by India’s largest engineering and construction firm, Larsen and Toubro Ltd (L&T Shipbuilding), which is building an integrated shipyard-cum-container port complex at Kattupalli.
The container terminal is expected to be operational by January 2012 with an initial capacity of 1m teu. This will have the potential to be increased to 1.5m teu as demand grows.
L & T is currently in discussions with unnamed global container handling specialists regarding the operation and management of the proposed terminal.
This latest order follows news from Terex Noell (China) at the end of last year that it had received an order to supply eight E-RTGs with elevated Bas Bar System to Ningbo Port’s Chuanshan Terminal, bringing to 55 the number of Noell RTGs in use at the facility.
