THE Port of Yibin's Zhicheng operations area, in southwestern Sichuan on Yangtze, has started trial operations, Xinhua reports.
As one of the six major Yangtze River ports planned to be developed by the Chinese government, the Port of Yibin started construction in December 2008. The Zhicheng operations area is located at the Cuibo Port Area, which will be the largest port area in Sichuan covering 4.1 square kilometres, and having a quay length of 3,500 metres. The port area will have a total of 23 berths of 1,000 tonnes with a capacity of three million TEU.
The Zhicheng operations area is the core of Yibin port, entailing an investment of CNY1.3 billion (US$197.5 million). It will have four container berths with a capacity of 500,000 TEU.
