Tan Cang-Cai Mep Container Terminal (TCCT) opened the second phase of Tan Cang-Cai Mep deepwater seaport in Vietnam's southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau on January 16, according to Viietnam News Brief Service.

The second phase of the facility includes a 40 hectare-container yard and 590m of wharf, the Saigon Times Daily newspaper reported.

The first phase of the port was completed and put into operation in June 2009 with 300m of wharf and 20 hectares of container yard.

The entire terminal has a total area of 890m of wharf with 16.8m depths and a designed loading capacity of 1.8 million TEUs or 25.3 million tonnes of cargo per year.

It is also equipped with modern facilities and equipment for handling, including six ship-to-shore gantries, 20 rubber-tyred gantries, 30 container trucks and 600 sockets for fridge containers.

Saigon Newport Corporation said the container terminal is now the most advanced deep-water terminal in Vietnam.
