Singapore: Singapore’s container throughput for 2010 increased 9.9% to 28.4m teu, according to preliminary estimates released Thursday by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore.
The port has been the world’s largest container destination since 2005, but is coming under strong pressure from Shanghai for top spot.
MPA also reported that the total volume of bunker fuel sold in the port of Singapore grew 12.3% to reach a record 40.9m metric tons, the first time that bunker sales crossed the 40 million metric tons mark.Singapore's Registry of Ships grew 6.9 per cent or 3.2m gross tons (gt) in 2010 to 48.8m gt, capping off a banner year for the Lion Republic.
