THE Port of Dalian handled more than 300 million tonnes in 2010, ranking it the eighth largest port in the world, Xinhua reports.
The port also recorded a growth of two per cent faster than the average of ports in China. It only took four years for the port's throughput to reach 300 million tonnes after hitting 200 million tonnes in 2006.
The port currently has 78 berths with more than 10,000-tonne handling capacity of 240 million tonnes, or eight million TEU, and serving 80 international shipping lines. Seventy per cent of the foreign trade cargo, and over 90 per cent of containers in the China northeast region are moved through Dalian, said Xinhua.
