Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) has installed “dual cycle” operations at its Cape Town terminal, allowing containers to be discharged and loaded simultaneously.
The double handling will deliver a faster operation and savings by minimising minimum empty trips for both haulers and cranes.
Dual Cycle was piloted at the terminal in early October as a collaborative initiative between TPT and Maersk. Container moves per gross crane hour hit 34, a 41% improvement on the terminal’s previous average GCH of 24.
