Jiangsu's Taicang Port tops others along Yangtze River

For the year to the end of November, Taicang Port of Jiangsu Province has recorded a container throughput of over two million TEUs, a record compared to 252,000 TEUs for the whole year of 2005 and 1.02 million TEUs for 2007, reported NewsTrak Daily.


In five years, Taicang has overtaken Nantong Port and Nanjing Port, both in Jiangsu Province, to be the largest container port along the Yangtze River. It has targeted a container throughput of 2.2 million TEUs for 2010 and over three million TEUs for 2011.


During the 11th Five-year Plan period, completed investments in Taicang Port amounted to US$1.8 billion. At present, the port operates 56 berths, including 28 berths capable of handling vessels of over 10,000 dwt and 10 berths for container vessels, being able to handle 97.80 million tonnes of cargo and 4.35 million TEUs per year.
