Sri Lanka's Colombo port November container throughput up 26.5% to four million TEU

Container volumes at Sri Lanka's Colombo port reached new highs during November, local media has reported.


Containers handled at the port hit a record of two million during November 2010, up 26.5% from the same period last year, as container volumes reached a new high of four million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs).


Local import and export containers handled by the the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) have increased by 37%.


The port also saw a 21% increase in transshipment traffic, reflecting a sharp recovery in both domestic and regional trade.
