Trade and industry in Kochi Port, Kerala, have expressed concern at the strike by trailer lorry drivers and crew, who are demanding higher wages, reported The Hindu.
An urgent meeting of the managing committee of the Cochin Customs House Agents' Association condemned the “indefinite strike” which had disrupted export-import business. The association said the strike, that entered the second day on Tuesday, was illegal as no proper notice was issued.
President of the association, Abdul Azeez, said the strike would definitely have a negative impact on Kochi Port, especially when the International Trans-shipment Container Terminal at Vallarpadam is all set for inauguration shortly.
The standing committee of Cochin Port also expressed concern at the ongoing strike. Meanwhile, containerised cargo and timber continued to be stranded in the port due to the strike.
