Ports of Auckland is spending around US$6 million dredging the northern berth of the Fergusson container terminal to accommodate larger container ships, reported Newstalk ZB.
Spokesman, Craig Dowling, says larger vessels are an efficient way of transporting bulky goods and more will be gracing our shores in the coming years.
Most of the dredging will be recycled to extend the terminal and the project will be completed by the end of next year.
