Shandong ports container volume to hit 20 million TEU by 2015

SHANDONG province is to invest CNY50 billion (US$7.5 billion) on port expansion and raise its cargo throughput to 1.1 billion tonnes and container volume to 20 million TEU by 2015, Xinhua reported.


By 2015, the aggregate capacity of ships in the province will reach 15 million deadweight tonnage, while shipment volume will surpass 200 million tonnes. Inland navigable waterways will extend more than 1,500 kilometres. Energy consumption of port will be nine per cent less.


Shandong is aiming at developing itself into one of the major container hub and regional logistics centre for northeast Asia, the largest ore handling port and one of key hubs for crude oil and coal transportation in China in five to 10 years.
