Calje joins PD Ports from APM Terminals

U.K.-based PD Ports has appointed Frans Calje to the newly created position of key projects director.

Calje, a Dutch national, was general manager of project implementation and business development at A.P. Moller - Maersk's container terminals arm APM Terminals, headquartered in the Hague, Netherlands. He worked on APMT's 420 million euros bid for the first concession at the Port of Rotterdam's Maasvlakte 2 development and also led the company's joint venture project with CMA CGM to deliver a 30-year concession for the port of Mobile, Ala.

At PD Ports, Calje will assume responsibility for leading all the Northern Gateway Container Terminal (NGCT) project teams. He will be charged with overseeing the more than 00 million investment project in all future planning, construction and commercial aspects of this major new development at Teesport in the North East of England. He will also be a member of the PD Ports executive committee.

Transappointment follows our recent news that PD Ports and Tesco will be bringing 800 new jobs to the U.K, through the development of a state-of-the-art import center in the North East of England, said David Robinson, chief executive officer for PD Ports.

With this Tesco move, alongside the existing highly successful Asda Wal-Mart import center, which opened at Teesport in spring 2006, we can see real momentum gathering behind our dream to create a major container handling port-centric logistics hub serving the North of England and Scotland based here in Teesport.
