Port regulator okays North Harbor master plan review

Nov 30, 2010 Port

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has allowed the new operator of North Harbour to modify its modernisation plan as long as it adheres to a strict implementation time-line for the project, according to Philippine News Agency.

This development is in line with the request last September of Manila North Harbour Port Inc, the port's new operator, that a review be made to validate current and projected traffic forecast, utilisation of the operational areas, non-delivery of portions of project area, removal of all informal settlers, impact on all port users, road traffic, environmental and other concerns of shipping lines.

Based on the schedule, the review and preparation of the revised master plan will be from September 2010 to May 2011.

The PPA expects the port operator to submit its conceptual engineering designs for the entire area by October to December of the present year, and by January to March 2011, a detailed engineering design for Phase I.

The port regulator will review, evaluate and approve the designs in a month's time.
