Joint study for ports of Rouen, Caen and Cherbourg

The Port of Rouen and the ports of Caen-Ouistreham and Cherbourg have announced that they will take part in a joint development study in order to identify opportunities for collaborative port activities.

"This initiative fits perfectly into the strategic action plan for Ports of Normandy Authority [PNA] and demonstrates that the joint association is aiming to work in collaboration with our partners in the Channel area and more particularly, with the ports of Haute-Normandie,” said Jean-Michel Sevin, managing director of PNA.

“A similar approach has already been taken by the Port of Le Havre, which is set to

establish a container shuttle service with the Port of Caen,” he said.

According to Philip Deiss, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Port of Rouen, the agreement will allow the ports to look at things differently and to take advantage of the complementary nature of the ports concerned.

“The Port of Rouen already has an anchorage in Honfleur with the industrial bulk terminal and we want to further broaden this partnership," he said.

The Port of Rouen and PNA are sharing the cost, estimated to be around €20,000 (US$27,000), with the ports presenting a detailed technical and financial assessment of the way forward once the study is concluded.
