Tianjin plans massive transport network upgrade over 5 years

TIANJIN plans to develop a more extensive traffic network of waterways, airways, railways, expressways and subways over the next five years, Xinhua reported.


Tianjin plans to accelerate the development of its Nangang port area, to raise the capacity of the port's sailing channel, and to build itself into a container shipping hub in northeast Asia and the largest bulk cargo hub in north China.


As for air transport, Tianjin's Binhai International Airport phase 2 expansion project will soon be launched with the five-year period, said the report.


Also, the Beijing-Shanghai rail link and the high-speed Tianjin-Qinhuangdao railway as well as the Tianjin-Baoding railway, the Beijing-Tianjin intercity railway extension line will be completed and open to traffic. Rail freight lines connecting the port areas will also be upgraded.


Meanwhile, Tianjin's 2, 3, 5, 6 and 9 subway lines will be open to traffic while number 4 and 10 will start construction, said the report.
