The total volume of loaded containers moving through the Port of New York and New Jersey dropped 7.9 percent in September from August, making it the second month in a row of volume declines.
But container throughput in September was up 6.9 percent from the same month last year at 343,236 20-foot equivalent container units.
Exports dropped to 117,289 loaded TEUs, down 8.7 percent from August and hitting the lowest level since February. Exports were 11.2 percent higher than the same month last year.
Imports also declined 7.7 percent month to month to 225,947 TEUs although they were up 11 percent from a year earlier.
Total rail lifts of full and empty containers reached 32,377, down 6.9 percent from August but 32.8 percent better than a year earlier.
