Russia's NCC volume up 26.5pc to 1.06 million TEU in 2010

THE National Container Company (NCC), the leading container terminal operator in Russia and CIS, posted an all-terminal throughputs from January to October of 1,064,065 TEU, a year-on-year increase of 26.5 per cent.


NCC's share of the Russian container handling market reached 40 per cent, the company claimed.


This rare press release came shortly after the announcement that First Quantum and Fesco Transportation Group issued a joint statement the closing of the sale of Fesco's share in NCC Group assets as announced in July.


"It is further confirmed that the aforementioned transaction has been completed, all settlements have been made in full, and Fesco Transportation Group does not hold any shares in NCC Group assets since July 21," said the First Quantum-Fesco statement.


In its statement, NCC said throughput of First Container Terminal in St Petersburg from January to October was 961,498 TEU, an increase of 28.3 per cent year on year. In October FCT handled 113,272TEU, an increase of 25.1 per cent against October 2009.


The throughput of NUTEP, the Black Sea Novorossiysk terminal was 102,567 TEU from January to October, up 11.7 per cent year on year. In October, NUTEP handled 10,464 TEU, a year-on-year increase of 20.6 per cent.


NCC was founded in 2002 and operates FCT St Petersburg the NUTEP Novorossiysk and the Container Terminal Ukrtranscontainer (UTC Illichivsk, Ukraine) as well as an off-dock container terminal and logistic centre Logistika-Terminal at Shushary, St Petersburg providing customers with container handling services.


In April, 2007, NCC started the construction of Ust-Luga Container Terminal (ULCT Leningrad [St Petersburg] which is due to become the largest in Russia and the Baltic region with the annual capacity of three million TEU by 2019, said the company.
