Bangladeshi port gets back to work

Chittagong Port is returning to normal after deployment of the army personnel following a workers' strike that shut down the country's economic lifeline, said coordination officer of the Chittagong Port Security Cell Major Shahriar Morshed.


Morshed said staff at the port had returned to work.


"Seventy nine ships have anchored at the outer anchorage and at16 berths of the port," he said.


"Workers are unloading cargo from 18 vessels out of 53 at the outer anchorage while loading and unloading in 16 vessels at the CCT, NCT and GCB berths is going on."


He further said that 246 army personnel had been deployed to help run the activities and for security reasons.
