Lianyungang port January-September box volume up 32pc

Oct 20, 2010 Port

EASTERN China's port of Lianyungang lifted 2.88 million TEU during the first nine months of this year, an increase of 32 per cent over the prior year.

The port's throughput grew 17.1 per cent to 100.75 million tonnes. This is the first time volumes topped 100 million tonnes.

Xinhua said the port has stuck to the container-priority strategy and has devoted greater efforts into seeking more cargo sources and new trade lanes. The port also has separated its 300,000-tonne sailing channel project into different phases and sections so that it would not affect the water traffic. Eight new lines were launched at the port this year.

Lianyungang has successfully extended the its container rail service to Northern Europe this year and built up three new logistics parks and freight stations.
