The container traffic to Port of Södertälje continues to grow. In May Team Lines start up with regular calls to Port of Södertälje. Team Lines is the fifth container line now calling Port of Södertälje at weekly basis. Port of Södertälje now has totally 7-8 calls per week. by container vessels. The new agreement gives Port of Södertälje a considerable increase of new container volumes.
- The decision that Team Lines starts with weekly traffic to Södertälje is from strategically viewpoint an important step. It strength our belief that our geographical position with E4/E20 just five minutes away from the port and our short terminal time, 12 minutes only, are factors having great importance for the choice of port, says Erik Froste, Managing Director at Port of Södertälje.
Team Lines is one of the leading feeder operators and are calling about 30 ports all around Europe with a fleet consisting of 35 vessels. The new service Team Line is offering will initially be run by M/V Ragna with 508 TEU capacity.
- For Södertälje this new agreement is important, as it clearly shows that the goal for Port of Södertälje to be the natural container port in the Stockholm region, is right, Erik Froste says.
Port of Södertälje makes two big investments during 2008 in order to meet the increasing container volumes. A new crane with capacity for panamax vessels will be delivered mid July and the new 310 meter extended berth will be opened.
