Hyundai terminal operator switches from Long Beach to LA

Oct 18, 2010 Port

CALIFORNIA United Terminals (CUT), the terminal operator for Hyundai Merchant Marine at Long Beach is to relocate to the APM Terminal facility at Los Angeles' Pier 405/406.

CUT is to move into a sublease alongside the Pier 400 property's main tenant of Maersk Line and benefit from a dedicated 1,250-foot berth, cranes, 91 acres of pure container yard space, on-dock rail and gates.

Hyundai services will relocate from Long Beach with Pacific Southwest and Pacific China Express services to restart at Pier 400 in late November and December respectively.

"The new partnership between HMM, APMT and the Port of Los Angeles demonstrates our commitment to serve this important gateway and the needs of the community today and for years to come," said Hyundai Merchant Marine marketing vice president Lamont Peterson.

CUT and HMM told Newark's Journal of Commerce that the move was made partly because of the knock-on effect of construction activities at Long Beach.
