Port of Spain settles for Navis SPARCS N4

Zebra Enterprise Solutions (ZES) has announced that Port of Port of Spain (PPOS) in Trinidad and Tobago will replace its five-year-old terminal operating system (TOS) with Navis SPARCS N4 to improve operations and productivity in the emerging Caribbean market.

PPOS is the largest container port in Trinidad and Tobago, handling the majority of the country's containerised imports, exports and transhipments. For five years, PPOS relied on the CTMS TOS software before deciding to implement the Navis SPARCS N4 solution to increase performance and efficiency.

"As part of our strategy we plan on growing the volume to 500,000 teu in the next five years," said Trudy Gill-Conlon, COO at PPOS. "Currently, we are at 400,000 teu and without Navis, it would be very difficult to achieve our anticipated growth and increase our efficiency.”

The web-based Navis SPARCS N4 operating system allows for advanced optimisation and productivity, increased yard utilisation and reduced labour and equipment costs and can be tailored to tackle unique characteristics of any terminal operation. According to the company, the system governs the movement of container logistics and operations and offers users improved customer support, lower operating costs and increased utilization. It enables greater control over resources for operations to quickly and intelligently respond to changes in the flow of cargo.

"Navis SPARCS N4 is the system that will take PPOS to the next level to support its anticipated growth [and] will put it on track to achieving its plan of increasing size and shipping capabilities," said Bill Walsh ZES general Manager.
