Alashankou checkpoint trade volume up 9.8pc in first eight months

ALASHANKOU, a customs checkpoint on the Sino-Kazakhstan border in Xinjing, handled 16.5 million of trade cargo from January to August, increasing 9.8 per cent year on year, Xinhua reported.


Import cargo grew 13.8 per cent to 13.3 million tonnes. Exports dropped 4.4 per cent to 3.2 million tonnes.


Trade value increased 31.5 per cent to US$7.4 billion. Import value soared 79.9 per cent to $6.4 billion. Export value plunged 53.3 per cent to $950 million.


During this period, customs collected CNY6.9 billion (US$1.03 billion), up 61.1 per cent, including CNY190 million's tariff and CNY6.7 billion's import value-added tax.
