DAVAO Integrated Ports and Stevedoring Services Corp. (DIPSSCOR), a unit of port operator Manila-based International Container Terminal Services Inc (ICTSI), recently took over operations of a new reefer facility at the Sasa Wharf, International Port of Davao in Mindanao in southern Philippines.
The reefer facility, installed by the Davao port management office of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), is seen to boost handling of the growing fruit trade in the Port of Davao, the main transit point for the importation of Philippine bananas. The Philippines is the world's third largest exporter of bananas, most of which are produced and harvested in the island of Mindanao.
"We are glad that PPA has entrusted the operations and maintenance of this reefer facility to DIPSSCOR. The Port of Davao needs these new reefers because of the thriving banana trade in Mindanao," said Manuel de Jesus, ICTSI vice president for business development, and DIPSSCOR general manager. PPA has responded positively to the market,
The reefer facility covers 270 square metres and can handle 144 reefer containers. It is located at the northern portion of Sasa Wharf.
DIPSSCOR is a cargo handler operating at the Sasa Wharf, and is the second largest operation of ICTSI in the Philippines after its flagship Manila International Container Terminal.
ICTSI is a port management company that leads 21 marine terminals and port projects in 15 countries worldwide.
