ARGENTINE shipping company Maruba's new line to the west coast of South America has successfully started its maiden voyage to eastern China's Port of Taicang, 60 miles upstream from Shanghai.

This is Taicang's second ocean shipping line after The Container Shipping, a start-up launched its LA shuttle from the port in April, said Xinhua.

The new service offers one sailing every other week, calling at Korea's Busan, Mexico's Manzanillo, Guatemala's San Jose, Colombia's Buenaventura, Peru's Callao and Chile's San Antonio on a 36-day loop.

During the first eight months, the Port of Taicang completed a throughput of 50.5 million tonnes, a 64 per cent increase year on year. Trade cargo handled by the port soared 140 per cent to 17.1 million tonnes.
