Ranking shows Asian ports hold their own

Sep 28, 2010 Port

Eight of the world's top nine ports are, according to the new Top 50 World Container Ports ranking, in Asia, with the Port of Singapore keeping its top spot despite falling volumes during the downturn.

Only two ports among the world's 15 largest showed any growth during the downturn, and both of these ports, No. 6 Guangzho and No. 11 Tianjin, were in China, found the recent Journal of Commerce (JoC) report.

The world's five largest ports - Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Busan - have all displayed double-digit declines since 2008, including a 13.7% slide at Singapore.
