Container turnover at Hong Kong port is up 14.2% in Jan-Aug., to 15.55 m TEUs

Eight-month container volume at port of Hong Kong (China) increased by 14.2% from the same period of 2009, to 15.55 million TEUs, the HK Port Authority said. Container throughput of the port’s largest terminal Kwai Tsing grew 14.4%, to 11.37 million TEUs.

 
In August, HK Port’s container volume gained 9.8% to 2,08 million TEUs.
 

Port of Hong Kong is one of the largest global ports. In 2009, Hong Kong's container trade shrank by 14.6% year-over-year, to 20.9 million TEUs. The HKP’s throughput capacity is 456,000 ships a year.
