Hong Kong's Felixstowe gets world's biggest cranes from Shanghai

Sep 9, 2010 Port

THE Port of Felixstowe in East Anglia, owned by Hong Kong's Hutchison Port Holdings, has taken delivery of two giant Shanghai ship-to-shore cranes - the biggest gantries in the world.

The ZPMC cranes are to be deployed at its Felixstowe South development's first phase, to be known as Berths 8 and 9, which will add 730 metres of deepwater quay when completed.

The giant ship-to-shore quay cranes were built in China by Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry Co (ZPMC). Each lifts containers 45 metres above the quay and will reach some 60 metres abeam - or 24 containers rows across the weather deck. The ZPMC cranes were fully erect when delivered from a crane carrier ship.
