The Jacksonville Port Authority will review its procurement process in the wake of a federal investigation of Port Authority tenant companies.
Authority Chairman Ricardo Morales recommended to fellow board members and to executive staff engaging the city's Office of General Counsel to ensure the Authority's processes comply with all laws. It may be necessary to hire an outside auditor, Morales said.
I would ask that you immediately meet with the General Counsel related to the appropriate protocols for employee interviews and port cooperation in this matter, Morales said in a letter to Executive Director Rick Ferrin.
Normally Tony Nelson, as part of the authority's audit committee, would spearhead such an internal review, but due to other issues that will likely prevent him from participating on the board, Morales will appoint someone else.
