Workers at Cochin Port went on a 72-hour strike from midnight Monday demanding that the operations at Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal continue to ensure jobs for more than 10,000 workers engaged there, reported The Hindu.
The strike was announced on August 11, but was put off on requests made by State Minister for Labour and Central Labour Commissioner.
The strike was launched following the failure of two rounds. The talks that were held on Monday also failed to reach a consensus, said Charles George, general convener of the Trade Union Coordination Committee.
Nearly 10 trade unions are coming together under the Coordination Committee to go on a strike.
