Guangxi's Beibu Gulf first half port volume soars 69.5pc

Aug 16, 2010 Port

GUANGXI's Beibu Gulf ports' first half container volume increased 69.5 per cent year on year to 256,3000 TEU, reports Xinhua.

The robust growth in the Pan Beibu Gulf, also known as the Gulf of Tonkin, was attributed to the fast developing logistics system which has become a backbone for regional economic development, particularly for trade with ASEAN economies.

With a 1,595-kilometre coastline, the area has enjoyed a boom with the growth in trade of petrochemicals, steel, information technology, nuclear energy, light food manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.

The Beibu Gulf now includes the Beihai Export Processing Zone, the Qinzhou Bonded Port Area and the Pingxiang Bonded Area as well having established a partnership with the Nanning bonded logistics centre to serve as logistics hub for south west China and the ASEAN states.

The economic zone is rapidly deregulating to help China's state enterprises to promote global business, incorporate bonded logistics, export processing and management services as preferential policies and new highways and rail networks develop in the region.
