Aug 12, 2010 Port

HUNAN sea freight volume reached 67.29 million tonnes in the first half of 2010, increasing 11.4 per cent year on year. This growth rate was faster than other ports located in Yangtze River, reported Xinhua.

In the first six months of 2010, all ports in Hunan handled 103,000 TEU, representing a 37.7 per cent increase year on year. It is reported that companies that benefited mostly from this were logistics companies specialising in shipments of raw materials, as well as seaborne containerised cargo for domestic and foreign trades.

Because of the global financial crisis, Hunan's sea freight market had been very slack in the second half of 2008 but started to recover one year later in the second half of 2009. The growth became significant in the first half of 2010.
