Media and industry news outlets are reporting that workers at the French container ports of Fos/Marseilles and Le Havre are planning a 24-hour work stoppage beginning April 23, 2008. All cargo transportation in and out of these ports will be affected. Reports also state that Fos/Marseilles is refusing export bookings as a result of persistent work slowdowns.
Additionally, vessel carriers are reportedly changing the port rotation of their vessels, and omitting calls to Fos/Marseilles and Le Havre, leading to congestion in alternative ports. Work slowdown is expected to continue once the 24-hour strike ends, Expeditors Newsflash reports.
