Jilin to develop inland ports for closer connection with sea ports

IN order to provide more convenient connections with ports on the Bohai Sea, northeast China's Jilin province plans to develop inland ports in Changchun, Jilin and Tonghua city, Xinhua reported.

Inland port is a logistics facility that cooperates with sea ports and provides one-stop customs inspection and clearance service to shippers so that their trade cargo don't have to go through customs procedures again when they are imported or exported via these sea ports.

Vice Mayor of Jilin city Zhao Jingbo said the city will speed up the building of the Jilin city inland port, a bonded logistics centre and a container yard.

The Changchun inland port started operation in December 2008. Last year, the facility handled 47,000 TEU of cargo. The facility is in cooperation with the seaport of Dalian and will undergo further development.

The Tonghua inland port started construction in September 2009 and is expected to be completed next year. The facility will have a cargo handling capacity of 30 million tonnes. All cargo in this facility can be cleared in seven hours.
